The 21st Century Macau Association formed its preparatory committee, following a first meeting held at the Military Club, last Saturday. The association was established at the legal offices of Rui Cunha, on May 21, having 21 founding members. With the aim of becoming an open platform for community engagement in civic and political affairs, the association has selected eight founding members to form an interim preparatory committee. Luiz Pedruco was elected president and Dr Gerardo da Silva, Dr Leanda Care, Dr Fee Lai-Yun, José Luís Estorninho, Carlos Rodrigues, Panfilo Limibao and Cherrie Liao have been selected as members of the committee. Dr Paul Spooner and João Correia were invited as co-opted members. Ordinary membership is now open to members of Macau’s community. The association also intends to launch a website and a magazine to inform the people of Macau and encourage dialogue between citizens. 21st Century Macau launched a Facebook webpage on Sunday with the same aim and is planning a dinner for invited associations from a broad spectrum.
