The phase of indecision has finally come to an end: Luiz Pedruco is running for the Legislative Assembly (AL) election, heading the list created by the 21st Century Macau Association. Luiz Pedruco presented the required number of signatures to run for the AL elections last Thursday but did not reveal list members or the electoral program. Pedruco explained the association would conduct a public forum, to be held Sunday [yesterday], hoping to democratically decide upon who would be heading the list, which members would make up the list and to elaborate on the electoral program.
Following the meeting, which took place at São Francisco Garden, Luiz Pedruco confirmed he is running for the elections, heading the 21st Century Macau Association’s list. In addition, he has also confirmed to Radio Macau he is still the representative of the list – a position previously occupied by José Luís Estorninho.
On Thursday, Luiz Pedruco didn’t elaborate on the reasons behind the change, only adding that, “after a few meetings, it was decided I should be the one representing the list.”  However, José Luís Estorninho still believes he is the representative of the list, having already submitted an official letter addressed to the Electoral Commission attempting to clarify the issue. Speaking to Radio Macau, José Luís Estorninho revealed he sent a letter to the Electoral Commission “requesting the clarification of the facts”. The letter enquired if there had been any change added to the delivered documents, as the ones he had previously given to Luiz Pedruco had his personal details, such as name, address and contact details. “Obviously if the documents have been accepted by the Electoral Commission, it is because something had been changed. It is necessary to clarify exactly what happened,” he said to Rádio Macau.
Speaking to the Portuguese newspaper “Ponto Final,” José Luís Estorninho indicated his incredulousness after discovering he was no longer the representative of this list, “This must be some kind of joke, it can’t be true. I do not understand how is this even possible, since it is agreed that I am the representative [of the list].”
Luiz Pedruco confirmed to Radio Macau that José Luís Estorninho did not participate in the public forum held yesterday at São Francisco Garden.
If elected, Pedruco intends to work mainly on areas ranging from economy to housing problems, focusing on controlling the rapid increase in house rents’ prices. Staff reporter
